However, in order to earn profits, gas stations will first purchase oil from some of the country's formal oil refining companies. Then buy some oil from informal companies or small refineries, and finally blend the two oils together or mix “low-grade gasoline” into “high-grade gasoline” and sell it as “high-grade gasoline”. Some even use naphtha and other chemical light oils to blend into petrol for sale.

The content of sulfur in gasoline is one of the important indicators of gasoline. According to the “Unleaded Gasoline for Vehicles” standard promulgated by the State Bureau of Technical Supervision, the sulfur content should not exceed 0.08%. If the sulfur content is too high, too much sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide will be generated during combustion, and they will corrode and accelerate the aging of the engine and cause the performance of the engine to decline.

Excessive addition of methanol and other substances may be one of the reasons that cause the engine to tremble and become weak. Han Xiaoping, chief energy officer and energy expert of China Energy Network, told reporters that methanol exceeded the standard because the price of formaldehyde was many times lower than the price of gasoline. At present, the proportion of methanol mixed with gasoline is 5% to 20%. Too much methanol may corrode the engine, increasing the swelling rate of the rubber material, and affecting the performance of the engine, causing it to tremble or accelerate its weakness. At present, the price of one ton of methanol is between two and three thousand yuan, while that of gasoline is about one to seven thousand yuan. Therefore, some refineries will increase the proportion of methanol added to earn the difference.

In addition, excessive olefin content and manganese content may also be behind the scenes. Although the olefin material itself can help the combustion more fully, if its content exceeds the standard, it will cause the engine carbon deposition, which will affect the engine combustion efficiency, and cause the car to tremble, can not be fired and so on. The manganese in gasoline is mainly derived from antiknock agents in gasoline. If too much manganese-containing antiknock agent is added to gasoline, they cannot be completely dissolved in gasoline. If the concentration is too high, the performance of the engine will also be affected.
