Due to the differences in the types of plates, manufacturing conditions, and methods of use, the causes of battery failures ultimately vary. To sum up, there are six cases of failure of lead-acid batteries.
Common failure modes of lead-acid batteries

First, imbalance
Most lead-acid batteries are not used alone, but multiple pieces are used together. One or two pieces in each group of batteries are behind, which can lead to other good and can not be used normally. This is called imbalance.

Second, the loss of water
During the charging process of the battery, electrolysis of water occurs, generating oxygen and hydrogen, so that the water is lost in the form of hydrogen and oxygen, so it is also called gassing. Water plays a very important role in the electrochemical system of the battery. The reduction of water quantity reduces the ion activity involved in the reaction, reduces the contact area between sulfuric acid and lead plates, causes the internal resistance of the battery to rise, the polarization increases, and eventually the battery capacity decreases. .

3. When the irreversible sulphated battery is over-discharged and stored for a long time under discharge, its negative electrode will form a coarse, hard-to-charge lead crystallization. This phenomenon is called irreversible sulfation. Slight irreversible sulfation, there are some ways to recover it; in severe cases, the electrode fails and does not charge.

Fourth, the plate softens
The plate is a multi-void material, and has a larger specific surface area than the plate itself. During the repeated charge and discharge cycles of the battery, as the different materials on the plate alternate, the plate rate will gradually increase. In the appearance, the surface of the positive electrode plate is gradually softened from the beginning to become a paste, and the surface area is lowered, which causes a decrease in battery capacity. High current charging, discharging and overdischarging accelerate the softening of the plates.

5. Short circuit In the circuit, the current does not flow through the electrical appliance, directly connected to the two poles of the power supply, the power supply is short-circuited, because the resistance of the wire is small, the current on the circuit will be very large when the power supply is short-circuited. Such a large current, battery or other power supply can not bear, it will cause power supply damage; more serious, because the current is too large, the temperature of the wire will rise, and in serious cases, it may cause a fire.

6. Open circuit means that because one of the circuits is disconnected, the resistance is too large, and the current cannot pass normally, resulting in zero current in the circuit. The voltage across the break point is the supply voltage, which is generally not harmful to the circuit. If it is possible, the wire is broken, or the appliance (such as the filament in the bulb is broken) is disconnected from the circuit.

Battery maintenance tips:
1. The battery is taken down and charged. When installing, the battery should be installed firmly on the electric bicycle to prevent the battery from being damaged by vibration during riding. During the handling of the battery, it is forbidden to throw, roll, or press.
2. Always remove dust and dirt from the battery cover, and keep the battery dry and clean to prevent the battery from discharging itself.

3, absolutely can not let the battery in a state of insufficient power for a long time, long-term use, should be fully charged, placed in a cool dry place, and regular charging.
