PKN Orlen, a Polish oil refiner, said that the country has begun construction of the first PTA plant. In August last year, Oren and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan signed a contract to provide design, supply and on-site monitoring services for the 600,000-ton/year PTA plant.
The plant is located in Oren's chemical plant in Włocławek, about 160 km northwest of Warsaw, capital of Poland. The cost is estimated to be around 3.73 billion zloty (1,870 million U.S. dollars) and will be built by a Polish company. October put into production.
The PTA produced will be used to make polyester resins and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles, licensed by Mitsubishi Chemical. Due to the strong growth of the Polish economy as a result of its accession to the EU, its domestic PTA demand has risen sharply in recent years. In July last year, Oren Oil Company and Technip signed a contract valued at 160 million euros (US$251.77 million) to increase the capacity of its paraxylene plant in central Poland.
