Servair of Air France Group added a new Iveco Stralis 6x2 AD 260 S31 Y/PS equipped with an Allison transmission to its fleet of 300 heavy-duty vehicles. The new vehicles were delivered at the Charles de Gaulle Airport and used by Servair subsidiary Armement Aircraft Restaurant Cleaning Company (ACNA) for aircraft cleaning and resupply services.

The Servair fleet has been equipped with allison automatic transmissions for nearly a decade. According to Jean-Marie Foucaud, Iveco's Key Account Manager, safety is an important factor in the selection of an Allison transmission vehicle.

“We selected the Allison transmission because it met Servair's safety standards. The user wanted a Euro 6 with an Allison transmission. After the order was placed, the Iveco assault plant SOVAM delivered the vehicle. It was put into operation in May," said Foucaud.

This Iveco truck is powered by the Cursor 9 Euro 6 engine using HI-SCR's patented Iveco technology, which is perfect for airport runways. This proprietary technology allows the engine to remain optimally and fully burned, drawing only fresh air without the need for an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR). In response to the enormous challenge of the Euro 6 standard emission reduction requirements, the system provides a simple solution without the need to add complex components, and it also eliminates chemical contamination of the engine and its peripherals and excessive thermal stress. Servair is now using 20 of this Iveco vehicle.

Since Servair's order is consistent with its previous equipment selection, drivers operating near wide-body passenger aircraft can fully meet their safety goals. Because vehicles with automatic transmissions do not require additional driver training, this means significant changes in driving habits for vehicles with manual transmissions.

Servair's customer, Patrick Cadoret, said that the new vehicle was built for the A380 widebody passenger aircraft. He said, "Safety is critical for close-range operations around the aircraft. Allison automatic transmissions provide greater mobility and excellent handling."

With Allison's Continuous Power TechnologyTM, fully automatic transmissions provide uninterrupted power to the drive wheels, providing precise control and seamless start-stop operation in frequent starts and stops. In addition to being more comfortable and easier to operate, the driver can even work safely and confidently with high-precision driving, such as docking the vehicle's high-lift cabinet with the aircraft's loading platform.

Like other vehicles, this type of vehicle will be used by multiple drivers, and the company is open all year round, serving 120 customer aircraft. The company's internal training center provides "airplane approaching" professional training. With vehicles equipped with Allison transmissions, ACNA drivers can now perfectly control the vehicle as they approach the aircraft and recharge.

“Allison automatic gearboxes provide smooth driving performance and excellent maneuverability. By releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle can move forward extremely smoothly with great accuracy,” said Cadoret.
