December 13, 2012: Global power system company Rolls-Royce announced that it has received an order worth more than £100 million to supply integrated power and propulsion systems for seven Brazilian offshore drilling vessels.
The ship will be built by the Atlântico Sul shipyard for the Brazilian oil company Petrobras. Rolls-Royce will supply six large propellers and six Bergen diesel generator sets for each vessel (according to Brazilian localization requirements) for propulsion and precise positioning during drilling operations.
It is reported that Rolls-Royce has provided propulsion systems for more than 140 mobile drilling units worldwide, with 30 units in hand. In addition, Rolls-Royce has designed 45 Brazilian-built UT-type offshore support vessels with 12 ships in hand, including four UT 775 SE platform supply vessels from the Bravante Group.
Rolls-Royce has more than 50 years of history in Brazil and has production facilities in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Rio de Janeiro, Niteroi and Macae. A factory will be opened in 2013 to assemble and test the RB211 industrial steam turbine and has received the first order.
